Tanzania Day 1

Tanzania and Sephardic Interviews 023 [1]

I know it’s been a little bit since I last posted. What a crazy year end. And now it is February already. I have cooked a great deal ad have some new things for you all to try but first I wanted to share my fantastic experience of the last couple of weeks. We went on a once in a lifetime incredible trip with my brother in law and sister in law to Tanzania on a Safari, or a series of ‘Game Drives’ as they call them over a period of 10 days.

Now I will share. Some of the pictures are a bit graphic so if you are sensitive or reading with small children you may want to check out the post first.
Dateline Los Angeles
11AM the car service was here to pick us up and take us to the airport. We picked up my sister in law and brother in law and so began the adventure of a lifetime.
First stop Amsterdam for one hour and 15 minutes, just enough time to walk quickly to another gate and board a flight for the next leg. We were on KLM. KLM to Kilimanjaro is a long flight. As if the 9 hours on KLM over Greenland to Amsterdam wasn’t long enough Amsterdam to Kilimanjaro is another 9 hours. We arrived at 9 PM and disembarked down stairs to the tarmac to hot humid air and a burning smell in the air. The immigration terminal was another 10 degrees warmer then outside and it took a little bit to get through passport control. We collected our luggage and found our wonderful guide Ombeni a descendant of the Kilimanjaro Chaga [2]tribe waiting for us. Beni is 32, cute, married, with a new baby, college trained guide who speaks perfect English. We got in a large all terrain Land Cruiser that would be our Safari vehicle for the next week or so.
After an hour on the highway we arrived at the Serena (a hotel chain), Lake Duluti Hotel and lodge. We were greeted by a super friendly staff and glasses of fresh pineapple juice. Our luggage was delivered to our individual casitas and a large clean comfortable mosquito netted bed awaited us along with a hot shower. Oh how good it felt to get in a clean bed! More to come.
